Im Sommer 2004 war ich von der Enkelin von Oscar Straus nach Bad Ischl zur Premiere der Operette “Die Perlen der Cleopatra” eingeladen.
Diese Operette, 1923 in Wien uraufgeführt, wurde dann in Berlin zum Megahit der 20er Jahre. Es war eine grossartige Show mit blendenden Kostümen, Pyramiden und mit Krokodilen die im Nil schwimmen.
Man kann dieses Werk und seine Wirkung auf das Publikum mit dem heutigen Erfolg des Musicals “Phantom der Oper” oder auch mit dem erst vor kürzem aufgeführten Stück “the Woman in White” vergleichen.

Vor der Aufführung in Bad Ischl sass ich mit der Familie Prebil-Straus, dem Bürgermeister der Stadt Ischl und seiner Frau sowie mit Christina Bahlo, einer Sängerin die schon einige Lieder aus der Operette auf CD aufgenommen hat, zusammen. Im Juli 2004 war die Uraufführung meines Gabriele Pauss und Ihrem Damenorchesters gewidmeten “Gabriele Walzer”.
